Sikeston, MO man convicted by jury on child abuse charges

JACKSON, MO (KFVS) - A Sikeston, Missouri man has been convicted of statutory sodomy first degree after a three-day jury trial in Jackson, Mo.

According to the Scott County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, Ronald Sherrod, 66, was found guilty of two counts of statutory sodomy after the jury deliberated for about two hours.

The crimes took place between June 2010 and May 2011. The investigation into the crimes began in May 2011.

A forensic interview took place in May 2011 in Cape Girardeau. The victim told investigators details about the abuse. Eventually six victims total came forward.

Prosecutor Paul Boyd said Sherrod had been tried two other times in the past seven years resulting in a mistrial in 2013 in Scott County and an hung jury in 2016 in Cape Girardeau County.

Sherrod is set to be sentenced on August 27, 2018. He is facing 10-30 years for each of the two counts.
