Officer to lead anti-violence march on shooting anniversary

ST. LOUIS (AP) - A St. Louis police sergeant who was shot three years ago is hoping to turn his annual celebration of survival into an anti-violence march.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Charles Lowe and his wife are leading the inaugural Code 73 Victims Against Violence Walk on Saturday.

The walk is named after the code officers use to let dispatchers know they're OK and back in service. Lowe says the code can apply to all crime victims and survivors who find a way to move forward in a life altered by trauma, like his.

The walk falls on what Lowe calls his "Alive Day" anniversary. The officer's vest saved his life in 2015 when he was shot while working an off-duty security shift. Two men have been sentenced in the shooting.
