1 of 3 juvenile escapees caught; 3 adults arrested at the same time in Mt. Vernon, IL

BENTON, IL (KFVS) - According to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, one of three juveniles escapees from the Franklin County Detention Center in Benton, Illinois has been found. Three other adults were arrested at the same time.

Officers with the Mount Vernon Police Department and the sheriff's office said at 4 a.m. on Friday, July 13 they went to a residence on Wescott in Mt. Vernon, Ill.

Officials were there in an attempt and locate subjects wanted on arrest warrants according to police. One of the subjects was a 17-year-old male who had recently escaped from the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Facility.

While searching the residence officers said they found the juvenile hiding inside. The juvenile resisted arrest but was taken into custody according to officials. Two adults, 18-year-old James Miller and 18-year-old Erica Brown, were also arrested on felony charges for obstructing justice – providing false information.

Additionally, 44-year-old Carolyn Duncan was taken into custody on a Jefferson County Warrant charging possession of methamphetamine. Duncan was incarcerated in the Jefferson County Justice Center with a bond of $30,000.

James Miller and Erica Brown were also incarcerated in the Jefferson County Justice Center. Due to the felony charges, their bonds are to be set.

The 17-year-old juvenile was transported to the Mt Vernon Police Department for processing according to officials.

Officials said the juvenile refused to cooperate with officers and was charged with a second count of resisting/obstructing a peace officer and a Jefferson County warrant for probation violation. The juvenile was transported to the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Facility pending court in Jefferson County.

The three juveniles escaped around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 11, according to Franklin County Emergency Management.

They were last seen in on Highland Street in Benton, Ill. moving in a southeast direction.

It is unknown which of the juveniles was caught

The three are described as:

  • A 17-year-old white male, 5-feet 6-inches tall, 115 pounds, brown eyes, and hair, and was last seen wearing navy blue pants, a gray shirt.
  • A 17-year-old white male,  5-feet 9-inches tall, 163 pounds, blue eyes, and brown hair and was last seen wearing navy blue pants, a gray shirt.
  • A 17-year-old white male, 5-feet 3-inches tall, 103 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes, last seen wearing navy blue pants, a gray shirt. and has a scar near his eye.
