Deputies: Man arrested for homicide, shoots brother on July 4 in Mt. Vernon

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) - The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported shooting on Wednesday, July 4 at 5:46 p.m.

The caller said her husband, later identified as David Sloan, 34, Mount Vernon, had been shot by his brother, Matthew Sloan, 36, of rural Mount Vernon.

Sloan was arrested for homicide.

Officials said the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Litton's Ambulance, and Jefferson Fire Protection District personnel responded to East Webb Road in rural Mount Vernon.

Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators of the Illinois State Police were called in to conduct an investigation.

The incident is being investigated by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Jefferson County State's Attorney, Jefferson County Coroner's Office, and Illinois State Police.
