CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - Bookworm in Carbondale had its last day on Saturday but not before giving back to charity.

Carl Rexroad, the co-owner of bookworm says that he thought it would be great to give back to St. Francis Care Animal Shelter in Murphysboro, Ill. in honor of Casper the lazy bookstore cat.

St. Francis is a nonprofit no-kill shelter.

The store had a free book giveaway where anyone could come in and grab any book off the shelf for free, and they set up a donation jar for anyone that wanted to contribute.

They ended up raising more than $3,200.

The owners found Casper in their parking lot 15-years-ago and was a fixture of the store ever since.

Casper passed away back in May of this year. Carl Rexroad the co-owner of the bookstore says he was shocked by the response of donations.
