Steele, MO man arrested for arson, hitting woman with baseball bat

STEELE, MO (KFVS) - According to Police Chief Billy Joe Stanfield, a 60-year-old Steele, Missouri man is facing assault and arson charges after an incident on Tuesday, July 3.

Steele police received an arrest warrant on Elbert Ray Parsons who is charged with arson first degree, assault first degree and armed criminal action. Bond was set at $25,000 cash only.

Steele police along with Pemiscot County deputies responded to a home on Brooks Street after a report of a vehicle fire. There was also a report of someone being hit with a baseball bat.

Officers arrived to find a vehicle fully engulfed and the fire had spread to the front of the house. An officer got one person out of the home safely.

The Steele Fire Department put out the fire.

According to police, the fire was deliberately set and the suspect is also accused of hitting a woman with a baseball bat.

Parsons was arrested and was taken to the Pemiscot County Jail.

The Missouri State Fire Marshall was contacted to assist with the investigation.
