A firework store aims to help soldiers in Missouri
CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - A TNT Firework stand sits in a parking lot near Walmart in Cape Girardeau. Within that stand are the usual fireworks that you can find at other tents. However, this particular firework tent helps out a special group of soldiers and their families with every purchase.
Firework sales associate Bill Johnson said a portion of all sales will go to the 1140th Engineer Battalion Family Readiness Group(FRG) to assist with anything that the soldiers or their families may need in the upcoming future.
"Basically it takes care of families in need when soldiers aren't available, Johnson said. "Or if a soldier is available and the family is in need of some help."
Johnson states that the 1140th FRG maintains help in many areas for these soldiers and their families such as school supplies for their children, have a Christmas giveaway for the soldiers and more.
Johnson states it's important to help out to make sure the soldiers and families get the support they need as the soldiers themselves won't have to worry as much while out in the field as they can focus on supporting each other there.
"In the military, the guy next to you could save your life," Johnson said. "It's a bond that you just don't get elsewhere."
Overall, Johnson said he appreciates all those customers that come in, especially those who knowingly go there to help support their cause.
"We've had a lot of the community come in strictly because this was a fundraiser," Johnson said. "I mean there are probably other places in town that probably have cheaper fireworks than we do but ours is going to a good cause and they're coming in here and helping us out. We really appreciate it."
