THOMPSONVILLE, IL (KFVS) - The Williamson County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a decapitated lamb was found on a farm in rural Thompsonville, Illinois this week.
According to Sheriff Bennie Vick, the newly born lamb was reportedly found around June 19.
Investigators spoke with the property owners and wildlife biology experts, and the current evidence showed there was no human involvement with the death of the animal.
Local experts believe that it is a strong possibility that a bobcat or similar animal killed the lamb.
The experts said it is possible that initial strike and shake of a predator may have been enough to separate the head from the body of such a young lamb. It is also possible that another animal could carry the head away if it was startled after the kill.
The sheriff's office said it will continue to investigate the incident.
