Two men facing felony charges after deadly I-55 crash in Cape Girardeau
CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Two men are facing felony charges after a deadly crash on Interstate 55 early Monday, September 12.
Marcelino L. Cruz, 24, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the first-degree (a class B felony), leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident (a class D felony) and tampering with physical evidence for his involvement in crash that left one person dead. Cruz's bond has been set at $100,00 cash or surety.
Samuel C. Salinas, 17, a passenger with Cruz, is also facing a charge of tampering with physical evidence (a class D felony). Salinas' bond has been set at $20,000 cash or surety.
Both suspects are scheduled to appear in court on Monday, September 19.
Both suspects were arrested and taken into custody at the scene.
The crash happened at the 100.8 mile marker in the south bound lanes around 5:30 a.m.
According to Cape Girardeau Coroner John Clifton, Carl Black, 60, of Altenburg, Missouri died in the crash.
