SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - The Sikeston Department of Public Safety reports a 37-year-old Matthews man is now in custody after an early morning stabbing.

According to DPS Sergeant Jon Broom, New Madrid police arrested Christopher Harrigan around 1:45pm Friday afternoon.

This, after 31-year-old Steven Vanvickle of Sikeston showed up at Missouri Delta Medical Center around 2:15am Friday morning with multiple stab wounds.

Vanvickle identified Christopher Harrigan as the person who stabbed him.

Investigators say an assault happened on Wilson St. in Sikeston.

They say according to Vanvickle, he met Harrigan at a local truck stop when he had stopped for fuel.

Vanvickle told officers he knew Harrigan and Harrigan asked for a ride to Wilson St.

Broom says as they exited the parking lot, Vanvickle believed Harrigan laced his drink with methamphetamine while he was fueling.

Vanvickle told police he threw his drink away and drove Harrigan to Wilson St.

According to Vanvickle, once the two made it to Wilson St. Harrigan became aggressive and wanted to fight.

Vanvickle told officers Harrigan began punching and hitting him and that's when Vanvickle believes he was stabbed.

Vanvickle drove himself to Missouri Delta and Harrigan fled the area.

Broom says the victim is in stable condition and recovering from his wounds.

Harrigan is still on the loose and arrest warrants for assault 1st and armed criminal action have been issued.

Harrigan's bond is set at $25,000 cash only.
