Police: 1 person of interest after 2 shot in Cairo

CAIRO, IL (KFVS) - Investigators are looking for more information after an early morning shooting in Cairo, Illinois.

According to Cairo Police Chief Arnold Burris, two people were reportedly shot in the street near the intersection of 24th Street and Sycamore Street around 1:14 a.m. on Friday, August 26.

The two people were taken to an area hospital.

They were identified as Keyvaire Childress, 29, of Cairo, and Chambrae Woods, 25, of Cairo.

Chief Burris said Childress was shot multiple times and was reportedly in stable but guarded condition at a St. Louis hospital.

Woods had one gunshot wound to the leg and was treated and released.

Chief Burris said the investigation is ongoing.

At this time, Chief Burris say there are no suspects in custody, but there is one person of interest.
