GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Graves County Sheriff Dewayne Redmon reports that a Mayfield, Kentucky woman has been arrested on DUI and several other charges.
On Friday, May 27 at approximately 5:30 p.m. deputies were dispatched to KY 121 North after receiving a report of an erratic driver.
The caller told authorities they were behind a car that had crossed the center line multiple times. The caller was able to give a registration plate for the vehicle and deputies stopped the car on KY 121 North near the Purchase Parkway.
The driver was identified as Laura Looper, 39, of Mayfield, and upon approaching her car, deputies spotted two large bottles of vodka in the passenger seat. Both had been opened.
When asked about the alcohol, Looper told deputies that she was indeed intoxicated and had been drinking for two days.
Deputies attempted to administer field sobriety tests, but could not due to Looper having trouble standing. A PBT was administered and Looper showed a very high level of intoxication.
She was placed under arrest and taken to Jackson Purchase Medical Center due to her dangerously high blood alcohol level.
When Looper was medically cleared, she was taken to the Graves County Detention Center.
Looper has been charged with reckless driving, DUI (second aggravated), possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle, failure to produce insurance and failure to wear a seat belt.
She has also been charged with disorderly conduct due to an incident that occurred with staff at the hospital.
