Homeowner found dead in McCracken Co. home after fire

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - A man was found dead in his home after a fire in McCracken County, Kentucky on Sunday, May 22.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department, deputies and the Hendron Fire Department were dispatched to 470 Rosewood Drive at around 8:51 p.m. They say the home was engulfed in flames.

Firefighters and deputies found a man dead inside the home. According to the sheriff's department, they believe the man is the homeowner.

Witnesses reported to deputies they saw the man, 71-year-old Alexander J. Cherry, arrive home about 15 minutes before they saw a fire. They stated that there appeared to be a small fire under the carport that quickly spread to the home.

Sheriff's detectives and the Kentucky State Fire Marshal's Office were on scene throughout the late morning hours.

An autopsy was scheduled.

At this time, deputies say foul play is not suspected in the death.

This case remains under investigation by the McCracken County coroner and sheriff's office, as well as the Kentucky State Fire Marshal's Office.
