Mounds, IL man arrested in McCracken Co. KY for alleged drug trafficking

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - The McCracken County Sheriff's Department arrested a Mounds, Ill. man on Thursday afternoon for trafficking in synthetic marijuana.
Over the course of the past approximate year the McCracken County Sheriff's Department has charged numerous individuals with possessing and trafficking in synthetic marijuana.
During the course of those investigations, detectives determined that the majority of the synthetic marijuana was being brought into McCracken County from Cairo and Mounds, Ill.
During the month of May 2016, detectives identified a possible supplier as Hamed Omar, 28, of Mounds, Ill.
Through their investigation detectives learned that Omar would be delivering a quantity of the drugs to a business parking lot in McCracken County on Thursday, May 19.
Detectives conducted surveillance in the area and saw Omar on the parking lot located at 3245 Benton Road in a 2007 Chevy Tahoe.
Detectives stopped and detained Omar.
During a search of the vehicle, detectives seized 406 bags of synthetic marijuana, $4,916 in US currency that is suspected to be proceeds of drug sales, and a loaded 9mm handgun. Detectives also seized a large knife that was concealed in the driver door.
Omar was arrested and lodged in the McCracken County Region Jail.
