Southeast to hold open forums for athletic director finalists

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Public open forums have been scheduled for May 24-26 in the search for a new Southeast Missouri State University athletic director.

Three finalists will each have an open forum.

Kurt Esser, senior associate athletic director at the University of New Mexico-Albuquerque. His open forum will be 2 p.m. on May 24 at the University Center Program Lounge. You can click here for his resume.

Brady Barke is the interim director of athletics at Southeast Missouri State University. His open forum will be at 2 p.m. on May 25 at the University Center Program Lounge. You can click here for his resume.

Dan Coonan is the executive director of development with the  Archdiocese of Los Angeles, Calif. He previously served as director of athletics and recreation at Santa Clara University of California. The open forum will be at 2 p.m. on May 26 at the University of Center Program Lounge. You can click here for his resume.

"We welcome the public's input," said Bill Holland, chair of the Athletic Director Search Committee and vice president for University Advancement and executive director of the Southeast Missouri University Foundation.

He said 52 candidates applied for the position. That group was narrowed to seven semifinalists who participated in interviews on May 12 via Skype.

While finalists are on the campus, they will meet with the search committee, Athletics staff, head coaches, the Southeast executive staff, Student Athlete Advisory Committee and Southeast President Carlos Vargas.

Their visit will also include a campus tour.

Holland said the university hopes to have a new athletic director in place by July 1.
