Archaeology Adventure Day Camp offered at Wickliffe Mounds

WICKLIFFE, KY (KFVS) - Wickliffe Mounds State Historic Site will offer an Archaeology Adventure Day Camp for children ages 9-12.

There are four camp sessions scheduled on Thursdays in June and July.

The camps will start at 9 a.m. and go until 3 p.m. beginning on Thursday, June 23.

The other dates are June 30, July 7 and July 14.

Children can be dropped off starting at 8:45 a.m. and picked up by 3:30 p.m.

The day camp is $25 per child, which includes a camp T-shirt, materials, Junior Archaeologist certificate and a family season pass to Wickliffe Mounds.

Children need to dress for outdoor weather and bring a sack lunch and snacks.

An informational packet will be provided to parents at time of registration.

The camp sessions provide children with a hands-on learning experience about Mississippian Native American culture and archaeology.

Archaeology Adventure Day Camp activities include:

  • Guided tours of the site
  • Beaded necklace and clay pot making
  • Simulated archaeological dig and replica artifact analysis
  • Native American games
  • Demonstrations of primitive technology

Early registration is recommended and is limited to 10 children per session.

The deadline is the Friday before each session.
