Finnish man sets new world record for chin ups

(KFVS) - A Finnish firefighter battled through a shoulder injury en route to a new world record for the most chin ups in 24 hours.

Joonas Mäkipelto completed 5,050 reps in front of a live audience in Canada and an online audience of more than 330,000.

According to Guinness World Records, Mäkipelto injured his shoulder in the early stages of his attempt.

It took Mäkipelto less than 19 hours to beat the previous record of 5,045 set in 2011. He opted not to continue for fear of doing damage to his injured shoulder.

After completing the feat, Mäkipelto called his girlfriend up on the stage and proposed.
