HAMILTON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - Alliance Coal announced the layoffs of 275 people in White and Hamilton counties in Illinois on Friday.

River View Coal, LLC and White County Coal, LLC will reduce operations resulting in the layoff 75 employees.

Hamilton County Coal, LLC announce the temporary layoffs of around 200 employees. The company cites weak power demand, low natural gas prices, an oversupplied coal market, and "overreaching regulations" as causes of the layoff. The company expects the layoffs at Hamilton County Coal, LLC to be lifted in third quarter of 2016.

Warrior Coal, LLC and Hopkins County Coal, LLC in Kentucky also announced workers adjustments. Elk Creek mine will stop production in the first quarter of 2016. The future of Warrior Coal, LLC's Cardinal mine is still uncertain. A company spokesperson said market conditions will determine whether the mine will stay open.

Heath Lovel, vice president of operations at Alliance Coal, LLC, released the following statement:

Prolonged weak market conditions made this production response necessary. We deeply regret the impact of these decisions on our employees, their families and their communities.
