Woman dies in Fruitland, MO trailer fire

FRUITLAND, MO (KFVS) - According to Cape Girardeau County Coroner John Clifton, 79-year-old Sherma McCarty has died in a trailer fire that broke out in Fruitland, Missouri on Saturday, Jan. 30.

Authorities said two people were living in the home when the fire broke out Saturday evening. One was able to get out safely with no injuries.

Fruitland Fire Chief Rob Francis said the mobile home is a total loss.

As of 9:35 p.m. Saturday, fire crews were still on the scene putting out hot spots.

The state fire marshal has been called in to investigate.

The Fruitland Fire Department was assisted by fire crews from Jackson, Millersville, East Cape Girardeau County and Gordonville.
