'Armed, dangerous' New Madrid, MO assault suspects in custody
NEW MADRID, MO (KFVS) - Two suspects considered to be armed and dangerous after a robbery/assault on Monday morning are now in custody.
New Madrid Police Chief Joey Higgerson says Shannon M. Smith and Robert D. Taylor Jr. have been arrested.
Police say the suspects went into a home unlawfully, assaulted a man without any weapons and robbed him.
The victim suffered a severe head injury and was transported to a St. Louis hospital.
Police report the suspects may have also taken a passport and jewelry.
According to police, the two men left the scene with another man in an older, dark colored, "boxy" style sedan.
Police say the two suspects have been charged with first degree assault, first degree robbery, and first degree burglary.
Smith and Taylor each have a $75,000 cash only bond.
The New Madrid County Sheriff's Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the Sikeston Department of Public Safety are assisting in the investigation
