Homicide investigation under way after body found near Black River in Reynolds Co.

LESTERVILLE, MO (KFVS) - The Reynolds County Sheriff's Department is investigating the death of a woman as a homicide.

Sheriff Tom Volner reports the body of 63-year-old Sharon Nelson was found about 100 yards from the Black River south of Lesterville on Wednesday, Jan. 13. It was found in an area that had been flooded in recent weeks.

Volner said people checking the condition of the road located the body.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports Nelson was from Hillsboro, Mo. and was last seen Nov. 3.

Volner reports no one is in custody. However, they do have persons of interest in the case and are pursuing those people.

The case is considered an active investigation.

At this time, the sheriff's department is not releasing the cause of death.
