RANDOLPH COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - The Randolph County sheriff is warning people in his county about a possible debit card scam.

According to Sheriff Shannon Wolff, someone in his county got a text message reportedly from Mid Country bank that said "We detect an issue on your account. Your account has been locked." The text included a phone number to call and confirm personal information to activate the account.

Someone from the sheriff's office called the number and got a recording prompting the caller to enter their debit card number.

Sheriff Wolff said this is most likely a scam. You should never give out your debit card number. Instead, Wolff said you should call your bank if you believe there may be an issue with your account.
