CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Cape Girardeau firefighters rescued a man and his dog from his home on North Fountain Street Wednesday.
Captain Jeff Crites says the man said he didn't think the water would rise as quickly as it did, but when he woke up Wednesday morning, his home was surrounded by water.
Crites says, at the time of the rescue, it was the only home affected by flooding in that area.
Ameren crews were called to the scene to cut off power to the home for safety reasons.
