Amtrak to use buses to charter people due to heavy rains, flooding

(KFVS) - Because of the recent heavy rains and flooding in the Midwest and Mid-South, local conditions have prevented Amtrak from operating at its normal capacity.

For approximately seven days, beginning Tuesday, Dec. 29, Amtrak will be using an alternative method of transportation for travelers using the City of New Orleans train between the cities of Carbondale and New Orleans.

Passengers traveling south on the City of New Orleans from Chicago will transfer to bus accommodations at Carbondale before proceeding south to Memphis where they will re-board Amtrak.

Passengers traveling north on the City of New Orleans from New Orleans will transfer to bus accommodations at Memphis before preceding north to Carbondale where they will re-board Amtrak.

Illini and Saluki train services will not be affected.
