POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - Police in Poplar Bluff are investigating a deadly hit and run crash that claimed the life of a 13-year-old girl.
Officers say they arrested 42-year-old Randal Sparks after they caught him cleaning the car police wanted to track down.
He's charged with several crimes - including leaving the scene of a crash.
Police are still looking for a black Ford F150 that also left the scene. They say the driver of the truck is also facing felony charges of leaving the scene of an accident and tampering with evidence.
Heavenly Grace Hafford was just thirteen years old when her life was cut short Dec 9.
Now her family is looking for answers.
"Why didn't they stop?" her father Steve Hafford pleaded.
Authorities found his daughter's body laying in the street at the intersection of Highway PP and Maud.
"She was so close to home when it happened," her father reasoned. "She was so close to our home."
Heavenly Grace went with a neighbor to buy a pair of shoes for her upcoming choir recital.
Singing was something she loved.
"She enjoyed her music," Steve Hafford explained.
Heavenly was a student at Poplar Bluff Junior High School.
Her principal Bob Case says her teachers and friends really cared about the young girl whose life was cut short.
"It's a tragedy for us to lose this young lady," Case said. "She was very sweet, kinda shy, quiet, to herself, but very very pleasant and a joy to be in the class."
With one of the drivers under arrest Heavenly's family hopes that someone will step forward with more information.
A group of her family gathered today to support one another in their grief.
"It's not going to bring back his daughter, but it will help us out," Heavenly's cousin Lee Hafford explained. "We just need answers. Please."
Steve Hafford now has to face the world without his teenage daughter.
"I've lost my world," he cried. "My life."
The second vehicle was a 2012 or later model, black Ford F150 with a crew cab, 4x4 short bed and bright white headlights. They said the truck will have damage to the front.
