Herrin, IL police investigating home invasion, assault

HERRIN, IL (KFVS) - The Herrin, Illinois Police Department is investigating a home invasion and assault.

According to police, they were dispatched to the 600 block of N. 9th at around 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 7 in reference to a home invasion.

Police say three unknown suspects broke into the home and physically assaulted the residents.

The suspects allegedly stole cash and other items from the home before leaving.

According to police, the victims didn't report any injuries from the incident.

The suspects, described as three black males, were reportedly last seen running north from the home.

Police say because the home was near Herrin High School, school authorities were immediately notified and the school was placed on lockdown. It was later lifted after police say they determined the suspects left the area in a vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing.
