WASHINGTON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - The body of a man was recovered from the Washington County, Illinois state lake conservation area on Tuesday morning, Sept. 29.
According to the Washington County Coroner's Office, the body of Juan Carlos Sanchez-Mora, 34, of Radom, was recovered at around 7:15 a.m. near the north end of the lake.
Sanchez-Mora was reportedly fishing with friends when at around midnight, he unexplainably jumped or fell out of the boat. He was then apparently hit in the head by the boat's propeller, and the other people in the boat could not find him.
Coroner Mark Styninger said Sanchez-Mora's body was found in about 6 feet of water near an inlet in the north part of the lake by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources police officers using sonar imaging. He was then recovered by the coroner and the Belleville Water Recovery Team using the Fayeteville Fire Department's boat.
Styninger said alcohol is believed to be a factor.
An autopsy will be performed on Wednesday.
