WHITE COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - The 10th National Prescription Drug Take Back is coming up again.

The take back will happen on Sept. 26 from 10 a.m. through 2 p.m. local time in every state, with the exclusion of Pennsylvania and Delaware, where the event took place earlier this month.

The goal of the national program is to have residents return unwanted, unneeded, or expired prescription drugs for safe disposal.

The rate of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are at alarming rates.

The National Prescription Drugs Take Back program is to help residents of local communities understand that when flushing prescription drugs down the toilet or throwing them away, you are creating both potential safety and health hazards.

The White County Sheriff's Department announced they would be participating in the program, with the collection site being in the lobby of the White County Sheriff's Department.

You may also go to www.dea.gov for additional sites in every local community throughout the country.
