MASSAC COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - Fire crews responded to a report of a semi on fire in Massac County around 9 p.m. on Sunday.

According to the Massac County Fire Protection District, it all happened in front of the Honeywell plant in Metropolis.

Honeywell reports the tractor trailer was delivering natural uranium ore to the facility when it caught fire.

According to Honeywell, the driver was not injured.

Honeywell reports the fire department said the fire apparently started in the engine.

Honeywell released the following statement about actions it took in regards to the fire:

"The truck was not in the facility itself and there was no danger to the operations. The plant initially declared a plant alert and notified the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission as per plant procedures. However, that alert status was later downgrade to plant emergency, which is the lowest alert status at the plant."

The Metropolis Fire Department also responded with mutual aid.
