Jackson County, IL flu shot schedule

JACKSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - Flu shots are recommended for everyone over six months of age.

Getting a flu shot not only protects you during the upcoming flu season, but it can also stop the spread of flu to others.

Flu season typically runs from October through May.

It takes up to two weeks for protection to develop after the vaccination.

Jackson County Health Department will be providing flu vaccine on a walk-in basis beginning Monday, September 21 and running through October 30. Walk-in vaccination is available from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and on Thursdays from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. In addition to the walk-in clinics, people can get their flu vaccine at health department clinics offered in the community.

State employees can go to any clinic site for their vaccine, however, health department staff will be at the SIU Student Recreation Center on October 16 and 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Flu vaccination is free for anyone with Medicare B, Medicaid, and State employees, and State retirees upon presentation of their insurance cards.

The health department will also accept most insurance coverage including: Health Link, Health Alliance, Cigna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Coventry, and Humana (please bring your insurance card).

All standard dose flu vaccine formulations are $35.

Vaccination fees can also be paid by cash or check (debit or credit cards accepted only at the health department location).
