WICKLIFFE, KY (KFVS) - The Wickliffe, Kentucky First Baptist Church hosted a vigil in support of law enforcement and other first responders.

This comes following the murder of a Kentucky State Trooper, Joseph Ponder,  Sunday and the shooting of an Arizona police officer Wednesday.

All were invited to attend.

The pastor of the church said everyday seems to become more dangerous to officers.

"Just the escalation of the things that are going on with our law enforcement and how people appear to be looking to everything," Pastor Lynn Raleford said. "Society, the government and other places we need to realize that God is our help."

"They're walking out not knowing when they leave, their families not knowing when they walk out the door anymore, where things are going to lead to," he continued. "What's going to take place, nobody knows. But again, it's the strength that we can find in the Lord."

According to the Officers Down memorial page, 87 officers have been killed in the line of duty in 2015, 26 of those deaths are the result of gunfire.

The Lyon County community is also hosting a vigil at 7 p.m. Sunday in front of the Eddyville judicial building the remember the Kentucky trooper shot Sunday.
