2 arrested on meth charges in Mt. Vernon, IL

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) - Two people were arrested in Mt. Vernon on Friday on meth charges after a traffic search revealed an active meth operation.

On Friday detectives from the Mt. Vernon Police Department and Jefferson County Sheriff's Department Narcotics Unit initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 1000 block of South 12th in Mt. Vernon at around 2:15 p.m.

During the traffic stop the detectives found an active methamphetamine lab, methamphetamine, and related materials inside the vehicle.

The driver, Chad J. Davis, 30, and a passenger, Jennifer N. Craig, 38, were taken into custody.

South 12th street was closed for a short period of time as the narcotics detectives, Mt Vernon Fire Department and Illinois State Police Methamphetamine Response Team secured the lab.

Davis was charged with manufacture of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine manufacturing materials and possession of drug equipment.

Craig, who is also on parole in Illinois, was charged with possession of methamphetamine with the intent to deliver, possession of methamphetamine manufacturing materials, and possession of drug equipment.

Davis and Craig are incarcerated in the Jefferson County Justice Center with bond to be set.
