1 person killed in IL crash involving semi truck and tractor

PERRY COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - One person is dead after a crash involving a semi truck and a tractor in Perry County, Ill. on Friday around 10 a.m.

Officials say Alan Ray Bowers, 75, of Du Bois, Ill., was driving eastbound on Illinois Rt. 154, partially on the right shoulder of the road.

A semi truck, driven by Samuel R. Latham, 47, of Rockford, Ill., was behind Bowers on Rt. 154.

Latham failed to see Bowers right away, and drove into the rear of his tractor.

Bowers was thrown from the vehicle and landed on the road.

He sustained major injuries and was transported to a local hospital via ambulance.

Bowers later died from those injuries.

Latham was not inured in the accident.

He is being charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Illinois State Police is handling the investigation.
