CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - Campus police say a claim that a female student was attacked on campus is not true.

On Wednesday, the SIU Department of Public Safety received a walk-in complaint from a female student who alleged being beat up on the Thompson Woods path.

The victim reported she was hit in the face by the suspect at 9:45 p.m.

Police say her injuries were consistent with her initial report and she provided a specific suspect description. Given the information provided, the Department of Public Safety alerted the SIU community through text message, social media accounts, and email.

During the investigation, and after a review of video evidence and other interviews, officers determined that the claim was false and no crime happened.

The complainant confirmed this to police.

University officials are following up with the student.

Police say charges are not being considered at this time.
