WEST FRANKFORT, IL (KFVS) - A firefighter was injured Monday night while fighting a fire in West Frankfort.

Fire crews received a call at 8:30 p.m. Monday of a fire at the corner of Van Buren and 6th Street. The fire was at a vacant home that had no utilities to it for some time.

When firefighters arrived, the home was fully involved with heavy flames and smoke throughout the house.

Firefighters fought the fire from the outside protecting any exposures.

Crews worked for about two hours with aid from area departments. Zeigler Fire, Benton Fire, Johnston City Fire and Williamson County and Abbott EMS responded.

West Frankfort fire officials along with Illinois State Fire Marshal's investigations group are investigating the cause of fire.

Fire units cleared the scene at 10:26 p.m.

One firefighter was treated and released from the hospital with an ankle injury.
