1 killed, 3 injured after two car crash in Jackson, MO

JACKSON, MO (KFVS) - Police and ambulance crews were called Saturday morning to the scene of a two-vehicle injury wreck near the city limits of Jackson, Missouri. According to the Missouri Highway Patrol one person has died.

The wreck happened around 10:40 a.m. at the intersection of Hwy. 72 and County Road 438.

All of Highway 72 lanes were shut down. Traffic was being redirected by police for several hours.

According to the Troop E of the highway patrol, a Ford Taurus was going eastbound on Hwy. 72 and the 59-year-old driver from Piedmont, Missouri crossed over the center line into oncoming traffic and hit a Hyundai Elantra head-on.

The Elantra flipped over, and the driver was trapped.

Three people were traveling in the Hyundai Elantra on westbound on 72.

A 41-year-old Marble Hill man and an 7-year-old female were taken to hospital by ambulance to an area hospital with moderate injuries.

The 27-year-old driver of the Elantra, Rachel Brown of Marble Hill, Missouri, was airlifted to a Cape Girardeau hospital in serious condition. The highway patrol reports she later died at Saint Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

The 59-year-old driver from Piedmont received minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital.

The highway patrol reports the drivers and occupants were all wearing seatbelts.

The Missouri Highway patrol, the Cape Girardeau County sheriff's office, EMS and area firefighters all responded to the crash.
