Woman killed in motorcycle crash

MASSAC COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - A Joppa woman was killed in a motorcycle crash Monday.

Valerie A. Caulfield, 47, of Joppa, Illinois was killed Monday, November 11 at 3:55 p.m. 

Caulfield was the victim of a two person, single vehicle crash involving a deer. 

Paul D. Meyers Jr., 49, of Grand Chain was driving the motorcycle southbound on US 45 when a deer crossed the road from the east. 

Meyers was unable to avoid impact with his Harley Davidson and struck the deer. 

The driver and passenger were ejected from the motorcycle.  Meyers was not wearing a helmet at the time, although Caulfield was wearing a helmet. 

Meyers has been charged with violation of classification and operating an uninsured vehicle. 

The Illinois State Police is still investigating the wreck.
