JACKSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - Crews have returned to the scene of an attic fire at a rural Jackson County house Tuesday.

Firefighters fought the attic fire Tuesday afternoon.

It happened in the 5200 block of Country Club Road between Murphysboro and Carbondale.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff's Department, the fire has apparently re-lit. They say there are flames showing. Most of the roof is now gone.

Country Club Road is closed for about two blocks for crews fighting the fire.

The owners of the home say it was vacant and electricity was not turned on.

The Murphysboro Pomona Somerset Fire Department responded to the scene. Ameren Missouri is also on scene.

Fire Chief Bill Bateman said the house is a total loss at this point. He said the cause is under investigation.
