LYON COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - A western Kentucky man had to be cut out of a pickup and airlifted to a hospital after an overnight crash in Lyon County.
According to Kentucky State Police, it happened early Sunday on KY 274 and Birdie Bannister Road around midnight.
Troopers say Thomas D. Skinner, 34, of Hopkinsville, was driving a pickup truck on KY 274 when he lost control.
The truck dropped off the left side of the road, went down a steep embankment and came to rest against a tree.
An 8-year-old girl, who was a passenger, was able to get out of the truck and wave down a passing vehicle for help.
A passerby to the crash was able to dial 911.
Troopers say Skinner was trapped inside the vehicle between the dashboard and steering wheel and had to be cut out using the Jaws of Life.
The minor was taken to Baptist Health-Paducah where she was treated and released.
Skinner was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition.
Kentucky State Police was assisted on scene by the Eddyville Police Department, Lyon County EMS, Lyon County Rescue, Eddyville Fire Department and the Trigg-Lyon Fire Department.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
