CAIRO, IL (KFVS) - Kids who've dropped out need to be built back up.

Community members plan to help establish a new youth program in Alexander and Pulaski counties.

The Delta Center landed a $700,000 federal grant for the youth-build program designed to provide GED classes, along with hands-on construction training.

"For the youth in our area, I think this is going to be a fantastic opportunity for them," said Lisa Tolbert, Executive Director, Delta Center. "Not only for them to receive their education and complete at least their GED. But also to get a skill they can obtain for employment later."

Tolbert says the goal is to graduate 17 students a year over the next three years.

Students will also rehab homes, which will then be sold to families in need.
