Jailhouse Rock? Mo. prison selling karaoke discs

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri's prison system is looking to unload 20 karaoke discs to the highest bidder.

No, the prisoners have not been dancing to "Jailhouse Rock" or singing the "Folsom Prison Blues."

The Department of Corrections said it received the karaoke discs when it purchased a machine that could be used as portable public address system for religious ceremonies at the Jefferson City Correctional Center. The department said the country and rock music DVDs that came with the karaoke machine didn't fit with its intended purpose.

The discs are being bundled with a variety of audio and video equipment being sold in an online auction.

State officials say they have increasingly relied on online auctions in recent years, partly because they cost less administratively than on-site auctions.
