SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - The Missouri Department of Transportation will celebrate National Work Zone Awareness Week April 4-8 with interactive activities.

The Southeast district is encouraged to participate in the "Where in the District is Barrel Bob" contest.

Barrell Bob is 10-foot tall man made of orange construction barrels. Every day, Bob will be placed in a different location throughout the 14 county district. Pictures of him will be posted on Facebook and Twitter. The first person to correctly identify Bob's location will receive a prize from the Southeast Missouri Coalition for Road Safety.

"In 2010, 1,033 people were injured in Missouri work zones," District Engineer Mark Shelton said. "Our goal is to educate the public and our employees to ensure everyone gets home safe at the end of each day. We're working hard to keep motorists safe, but we need your help. Please watch for signs, be alert and don't barrel through work zones."
