TOONE, TN (WMC-TV) – Emergency officials are responding to an apparent explosion this afternoon at the Kilgore Flares Company in Toone, Tennessee.
Sources say multiple ambulances and four medical helicopters were sent to the scene of the explosion.
A spokesperson at Kilgore told Action News 5 the company has no comment at this time.
According to the Associated Press, Tennessee Emergency Management Agency spokesman Jeremy Heidt in Nashville said there was a flash fire at the plant but that local officials had not asked for state help responding to it.
The Kilgore plant is located approximately 75 miles northeast of Memphis in Hardeman County.
The company's website says Kilgore supplies infrared decoy flares for the military. Such flares can be used as counter measures to heat-seeking missiles.
One person was killed in an explosion at the plant in April of 2001.
Chopper 5 and an Action News 5 crew are en route to the scene at this time. If you have images from the scene, please email them to firstname.lastname@example.org.
