Union County signs on with architect for new courthouse

By Heartland News

JONESBORO, IL (KFVS) - Union County is one step closer to having a new courthouse.

Union County commissioners signed a contract with an architectural firm to build a new courthouse.

The county has decided to sign with HOK, an international architectural firm.

The estimated $12.5 million courthouse should be finished in two to three years.

It is funded by a one percent sales tax that was passed by voters in February.  It will be designed by the ROK Architectural Firm in St. Louis.

Crews hope to break ground in the spring and will try to build on the current courthouse site.

The current courthouse was built in 1857.
