Two cases of West Nile Virus found in Illinois birds

By Heartland News

(KFVS) - The Illinois Public Health director reports finding the first birds to test positive for West Nile Virus.

Workers collected a house sparrow in Carroll County and a cowbird in St. Clair County this month.

The health director says as temperatures warm up the risk for West Nile increases.

The best defense is to wear insect repellent and get rid of standing water near your home to ward off mosquitoes that carry the disease.
