Joyce Lupiani moved to Atlanta and joined Atlanta News First as the Digital Managing Editor in September 2021. She is now the Digital Content Manager for AtlantaNewsFirst.com and PeachtreeTV.com.
Joyce began her journalism career at the Portland Press Herald in Maine in the early 1990s. After a few years, she moved to Las Vegas and spent the next 16+ years at the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
In the mid-1990s, Joyce conceived of and launched Restaurant Report, which listed demerits and grades for local restaurants. Multiple newspapers and TV stations around the country now have their own versions of Restaurant Report.
A year later, after compiling various entertainment lists for the newspaper on a regular basis, she suggested putting them all together in a weekly tab, along with music/movie/food reviews, that would be inserted into the newspaper. She even picked out the name -- NEON. It is considered the definitive guide to all things entertainment in Las Vegas.
Shortly after, she volunteered along with 2 other people in the newsroom to launch a website for the newspaper -- lvrj.com. In addition, the web team for LVRJ also launched LasVegas.com, Hawaii.com, CasinoGaming.com and several other websites. They also hosted very popular online chats with Las Vegas headliners and had a very popular 24/7 webcam.
Additionally, the LVRJ was the first newspaper in the country to launch a TV-style news segment -- RJTV. Unfortunately, it was so far ahead of its time, it failed miserably.
After being laid off in 2011, Joyce made the jump to broadcast and began working for KTNV-TV Channel 13.
Because of her love of lists, she launched 13 Things, a weekly list of things to do around Las Vegas. Initially, the list only appeared on the website. After obtaining a sponsor, it became a weekly entertainment segment.
In 2012, Joyce launched Positively Las Vegas and was named the managing editor. PLV featured positive stories from around Southern Nevada. It became a part of the daily newscasts and was also copied by multiple stations around the country.
In her last few years in Las Vegas, she managed both the assignment desk and digital department; was given several Edward R. Murrow awards; was heavily involved in the coverage of the 1 October mass shooting; won an Emmy for coverage of the Black Lives Matter protests in Las Vegas; and more.
Last but not least, she helped develop KTNV's OTT channel. In addition to repackaging on-air stories for OTT, Joyce and her digital team produced a 30-minute weekly show of original content called "How To Vegas," which was streamed on multiple platforms and aired on channel 13.
During her free time, Joyce is usually exploring metro Atlanta with her tortoise Shelldon, who has his own IG, or looking for good food.
