Cassie Carlson joined the WMC sports team in February 2020 as a weekend sports anchor and reporter.
Before she moved to the Mid-South, Cassie spent two years at KJTV in Lubbock, Texas. In Lubbock, she covered Texas Tech and Texas high school football. In 2019, she followed the Red Raider basketball team to the Final Four and National Championship game. She also covered Texas Tech baseball's trip to the College World Series. During her time in West Texas, Cassie served as the color analyst for Texas Tech soccer and volleyball broadcasts on Fox Sports Southwest.
Cassie grew up playing competitive sports and when she decided not to continue in college, she knew she still wanted to be a part of the game. She graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in May 2017 with a Bachelor of Science degree in broadcast journalism. At Illinois, she was a team reporter for the Illinois Athletics Department as well as a sideline reporter, play-by-play announcer and color analyst for Big Ten StudentU live broadcasts. She was a production assistant for Fighting Illini Productions where she produced feature stories, highlight videos and hosted a weekly Illinois Athletics show. Cassie also interned at NBC Sports Chicago where she got to cover the Chicago Cubs during their 2016 World Series season.
Cassie has won awards for her reporting including the INBA Best TV Sports Package in Illinois and SPJ Mark of Excellence first place in Best TV Sports Reporting. She was also a national finalist for the SPJ Best TV Sports Reporting Award.
When she has free time you can find Cassie checking out all of the great restaurants in town, then working out so she can enjoy all the good eats. She loves yoga, spin and running outside.
