Heartland Votes: Sheriff’s races in southeast Mo.
SOUTHEAST MISSOURI (KFVS) - The unofficial results are in for several sheriff’s office races in southeast Missouri.
Some counties will be getting a new sheriff, including a few counties where the incumbent candidate was unseated.
The unofficial results show:
Madison County
- Kyle Danback - 266
- Nic Adams - 1,025
- Lindell D. Lunsford, Jr. - 730
New Madrid County
New Madrid Police Chief Joey Higgerson defeated New Madrid County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Chris Hensley. Higgerson took in 77 percent of the vote. He’ll take over for Sheriff Bud Cooper who opted not to seek reelection and then resigned from office earlier this year.

Rad Talburt defeated incumbent Ripley County Sheriff Mike Barton with 79.9 percent of the vote.

Scott County
Sikeston Department of Public Safety Captain Derick Wheetley unseated incumbent Scott County Sheriff Wes Drury. Unofficial numbers show Wheetley won the race by 174 votes. The vote totals in this race were spread pretty evenly between all three candidates on the ballot, with each collecting more than 2,000 votes.

Kyle Shearrer defeated incumbent Wayne County Sheriff Dean Finch. Unofficial results show Shearrer won the race by 98 votes.
