Former Charleston R-I School Dist. employee accused of stealing money
MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, Mo. (KFVS) - A former Charleston R-I School District employee is accused of stealing money.
Jessica D. Welch, 46, of Charleston, was arrested on Monday, August 5 on a warrant for one count of stealing $750 or more.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, she posted her $10,000 cash/surety bond.
Her arraignment is set for Wednesday, August 14 at 9:30 a.m.
Troopers say they were asked by Mississippi County Prosecuting Attorney Claire Poley on July 28, 2023, to investigate allegations of stealing by a former Charleston R-I School District employee, identified as Welch.
According to online court documents, Welch was a secretary with the school district but left around January 1, 2023.
After she left, investigators say it was reported a large amount of money was missing and unaccounted for.
Court documents state that $46,895.78 was unaccounted for and never deposited in the school district account. They say multiple deposit slips were found but they were unable to find the cash turned in associated with the deposit slips.
The Mississippi County prosecutor subpoenaed the school district’s bank records as well as Welch’s bank records.
