12 year old dies after getting hit by truck while riding a bike at intersection of Hwy. 154, Circle M Rd. near Sesser

SESSER, Ill. (KFVS) - A 12 year old died after getting hit by a truck while riding a bike at the intersection of State Highway 154 and Circle M Road.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, they received a 911 call around 2:13 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30 about a crash involving a truck and a bicycle.

Deputies responded to the scene at the intersection of Highway 154 and Circle M Road.

They say the 12 year old was on the bike and was severely injured. The child was airlifted from the scene and later died from his injuries at a regional hospital.

The preliminary crash investigated indicates the truck was going eastbound on Highway 154, approaching the intersection of Circle M Road. The bicycle was southbound on Circle M Road, approaching the intersection of Highway 154.

Deputies say a witness to the crash, as well as the driver of the truck, told them the bicycle proceeded into the intersection without stopping and was hit by the eastbound truck.

The crash is being investigated by the sheriff’s office with the assistance of the Illinois State Police traffic crash reconstruction unit.

The sheriff’s office thanked the Sesser Police Department, Sesser Fire Protection District, Franklin County Emergency Management Agency, Abbott Ambulance, AirEvac and numerous passerby citizens for their help at the scene.
